Floyd’s Thirst Parlor, All Ages, and Other Third Thursday Events

We have decided . . .

Indeed, there was a gap for all the dust to settle but we now have a plan. We are going to continue to have the next show (Feb) at Floyd’s. Plans are still on the table to have another show back at the Hickox House/Norb Andy’s when we have had time to gather ourselves for another run at running our own cash bar which is what has to happen there unless someone opens Norb’s (which would be awesome).

One problem we have been made aware of is that the shows at Floyd’s are not all ages as they have been at the other locations. This is one reason why we would like to be at Hickox again, however, in every other way, Floyd’s has been a satisfactory venue for the show.

Our show (3T, run by committee) is obviously not the only game in town. Something like six years ago Springfield had a Third Thursday art event downtown where various businesses were open to sell art. This was inspired by a similar event in Kansas City. Whereas this idea of Third Thursday differs in many ways from those efforts, such as no jury, no admission, no percentage, non-profit volunteerism compared to a for-profit pact with businesses working together, it still shares the idea of creating a community happening also reminiscent of art ‘happenings’ of the past.

With that in mind it must be noted that there have been other Third Thursday shows running in tandem with this one in downtown Springfield. This is entirely in keeping with the original idea. We, the committee of volunteers who run this particular show, are supportive of all other efforts to spread the love and share the idea of having art shows and culture come alive in this town.

It must be further noted, for clarity, that each show is run by a separate crew of volunteers who make decisions and guidelines for how each show is run on their own. The only rules they all share: no charge to be involved and no one is turned away (unless the venue prohibits something they feel is particularly offensive to their usual clientéle).

January 2012

After a successful show running their own cash bar at the Hickox House, the 3T Steering Committee approached Floyd’s Thirst Parlor about hosting the January 3T show. It seemed at the time that we would not be able to continue the shows at the Hickox House, however, since the success of the last show there we have been asked to return to the Hickox House in the future. We will anounce on this site where the show will be in February.

Keep watching the show page here for more details about January 19th as they unfold.
